Snooker Championship League Winners Group 2017: Wednesday Results and Reaction

Reigning champion Judd Trump was in good form at the Snooker Championship League Winners Group 2017, winning three of his opening four matches in the final group stage of the non-ranking competition on Wednesday.

Trump defeated David Gilbert, Ryan Day and Mark Davis, but surrendered a match to John Higgins, losing 3-1 in the rotational tournament played without an audience.

The group stage concludes on Thursday as a further 11 matches are played ahead of the final in the evening session—in the four-frame format.

Here are Wednesday’s results and update table:

Wednesday Recap

Trump and Davis were both in excellent shape in the earlier sessions as they displayed good form in the unique competition, only available to view via internet streaming.

The champion made a 140 break as he defeated Gilbert 3-0 before being caught off guard by veteran Higgins, losing the match 3-1 as the Scot dominated the table.

Davis’ break-building was also evident as he made a 53 in his defeat of Anthony McGill.

Barry Hawkins was steady in the morning as he swept past Davis 3-1, with victories spread out among the players who had made it to the final group stage.

Trump’s quality dominated the evening matches as he put Day and Davis to the sword in consecutive contests.

Breaks of 65 and 87 helped him past the finishing post in each encounter as he showed off his quality.

McGill had a difficult morning but redeemed himself as he shocked Hawkins 3-1 late in the day. Hawkins appeared jaded after the long day of matches, and he had run out of steam.

However, he battled back to take the win against Higgins in the final match of the day, grabbing his third victory in the group, setting himself up for a good final day of action.

The matches continue Thursday as the final takes place to declare the champion.

Netflix’s New Series ‘Dark’ Looks Like a Scarier ‘Stranger Things’

Netflix’s Stranger Things has enjoyed unprecedented success since its release, thanks to a variety of thematic elements like its setting, time period, and overall vibe. Now in following in its footsteps, a new trailer for Dark has just dropped, and it has got us all spooked and riled up.

Upon first glance at the show’s trailer, you might deduce that the show is essentially just “Stranger Things V2,” but the plot of a missing child is essentially where all the similarities end. Outfitted with a much more sinister vibe, Dark takes that very same concept and gives it a very German spin (it was literally filmed and produced in Germany), while flirting with elements of horror and mystery.

According to Netflix, the series will debut Winter 2017; we still don’t have an official release date but be sure to stay tuned for further updates concerning Dark.

For more on Stranger Things, check out the latest updates on the hit show’s upcoming season.

Kendrick Lamar Talks New Album and Content, “My Focus is Ultimately Going Back to My Community”

It’s been two years since Kendrick Lamar released his critically acclaimed album, To Pimp a Butterfly was released and it seems that fans aren’t the only ones ready for a new project.

In an interview with T Magazine, which he graces the cover alongside Beck and Tom Waits, K. Dot talks about his mindset over the past few months and his plan for his next album.

“I think now, how wayward things have gone within the past few months, my focus is ultimately going back to my community and the other communities around the world where they’re doing the groundwork,” Kendrick said. “To Pimp a Butterfly was addressing the problem. I’m in a space now where I’m not addressing the problem anymore. We’re in a time where we exclude one major component out of this whole thing called life: God. Nobody speaks on it because it’s almost in conflict with what’s going on in the world when you talk about politics and government and the system.”

Kendrick also talked about his seven-month-old daughter and how she’s the inspiration for his thought process behind his new project and what he wants to contribute to the world.

“This is what goes on in my mind as a writer,” he said. “One day, I may have a little girl. And it’s a girl in particular—funny you should say that. She’s gonna grow up. She’s gonna be a child I adore, I’m gonna always love her, but she’s gonna reach that one point where she’s gonna start experiencing things. And she’s gonna say things or do things that you may not condone, but it’s the reality of it and you know she was always gonna get to that place. And it’s disturbing. But you have to accept it. You have to accept it and you have to have your own solutions to figure out how to handle the action and take action for it.”

“When I say ‘the little girl,’ it’s the analogy of accepting the moment when she grows up,” he continued. “We love women, we enjoy their company. At one point in time, I may have a little girl who grows up and tells me about her engagements with a male figure—things that most men don’t want to hear. Learning to accept it, and not run away from it, that’s how I want this album to feel.”

Although Kendrick didn’t go into much more detail about the album, much like his previous projects – we can expect nothing short of greatness. To check out the full interview, click here and check below looks from the photoshoot.

After she stumbles across evidence of stolen goods in Jimmy’s workshop, Marley is determined to find out what’s really going on in the not-so-quiet town of Wildwood Cove. City Of Shadows: Inspector Danilov Historical Thriller #2 ($0.99 Kindle), by M J Lee [Carina / HarperCollins] – the first in the series, Death In Shanghai, is currently $3.99.

A family has been found murdered in the heart of 1920s Shanghai. But what could have compelled them to open the door to their killer?

Inspector Danilov has always taken a unique approach to solving his cases. So, when he’s asked to investigate the violent death of a fellow police officer, killed in action, he doesn’t think twice about turning his attention to a different case altogether: the brutal murder of the Lee family, found massacred in their own home.

How could the deaths of an ordinary family account for a shooting halfway across the city? And what clues lie with the letter found clasped in the dead girl’s hand? Inspector Danilov’s instincts tell him he’s close. But when the investigation reveals deep corruption at Shanghai’s core, Danilov faces a choice: probe further, and expose the evil underbelly of the city? Or shy from duty…and keep the few people he loves safe?

Don’t miss the second book in MJ Lee’s brilliant Inspector Danilov series.

New Jersey Students Celebrate The Start Of The Lenten Season

PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — For many Christians, Lent is a period of conversion and change. CBS2’s Meg Baker talked to some school children in Bergen County about what that means to them.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Lenten Season for Catholics. At Our Lady the Visitation in Paramus, students are taking their promises very seriously.

“You don’t just get your ashes and leave,” fifth grader Sophia Ditchfield said. “You get your ashes to mark a new beginning.”

“Lenten Season is a time of reflection and trying to give thanks to Jesus for his sacrifices,” 14-year-old Daniella Navia said.

Ash Wednesday represents a journey of changes to Christians. The ashes are a symbol that we are not perfect and must repent for our sins leading up to Easter Sunday.

“Lent is a chance to get things back on track,” Father Eugene Fields said.

From what it sounds like, parents in this particular parish will have a few extra helping hands around the house.

“I’m probably just going to help my parents with the dogs because there’s a lot of dog fur between the two of them,” fifth grader Alyssa Mack pledged.

Sixth grader Marc Grabulosa says he’ll not only do more chores, but also give up chips for the next month and change.

Fourth grader Ian Chap says he’ll be giving up sweets, including his beloved Kit Kat bars.

One religion teacher at the school had an idea that didn’t go over so well with her students.

“I suggested giving up texting, TV, or Snapchat, but they kind of laughed at that idea,” Linda Maliani said.

The students told CBS2 they are all working on their Lenten promises together to make their school and town a better place for all.
