Free Book – Lincoln’s Constitution

Lincoln’s Constitution ($14.00 $10.99 Kindle), by Daniel Farber, is this month’s free book from The University of Chicago Press.

Book Description
In Lincoln’s Constitution Daniel Farber leads the reader to understand exactly how Abraham Lincoln faced the inevitable constitutional issues brought on by the Civil War. Examining what arguments Lincoln made in defense of his actions and how his words and deeds fit into the context of the times, Farber illuminates Lincoln’s actions by placing them squarely within their historical moment. The answers here are crucial not only for a better understanding of the Civil War but also for shedding light on issues-state sovereignty, presidential power, and limitations on civil liberties in the name of national security-that continue to test the limits of constitutional law even today.

Book Description
Will a child of Society have the backbone to love a tough, wild west cowboy?

For adventurous Margaret Flemming, arrived from Boston to be with her father, the Old West town of her childhood is a far cry from the drawing rooms and balls of the high society life she’s used to. Her fancy gowns and proper manners have no place in the dusty, cruel land inhabited by Indians and rough cowboys. And her fiercely independent streak constantly gets her in trouble. When tragedy strikes, there’s only one person she can turn to–her childhood friend, Garret Shaw–but he’s disgusted with her Society ways.

With his ranch under attack from the land-grabbing Jennings, the last thing Garret needs is to be saddled with a high-falutin’ lady. Even if she is his friend’s daughter and her kind ways tug at his hardened heart. Duty to her father forces them to wed, but he knows sure as anything, when the chance comes along, she’ll go back to Boston. No matter how much he wants her, loving her is not a risk he can take.

Will Maggie choose a life of luxury and ease over struggle and hardship with an ill-mannered cowboy? Only her heart can answer.

Free Book – Cheyenne Captive

Cheyenne Captive: Panorama of the Old West #1, by Georgina Gentry, is free in the Kindle store and from Barnes & Noble, EBooks.com, Google, iTunes and Kobo, courtesy of publisher Zebra [Kensington].

Book Description
SCANDALOUS THOUGHTS

When headstrong, golden-haired Summer ran away from home, all she could think of was leaving her strict father behind. But after a vengeance-seeking Indian attacked her stage, threatening her with a fate worse than death, the tempestuous girl yarned for her parents’ overbearing rules. . . until the savage’s cruel grip changed to a tantalizing touch! His sensuous caress banished all ties to the past, the exciting things he did with his lips made her yearn for an unknown fulfillment. From that moment the spirited innocent knew that her future was bound to his—and she’d cherish whatever relationship the uncivilized brave decided to have with her.

FORBIDDEN DESIRES

From the years he was forced to live in Texas, the handsome half-breed Iron Knife knew how deceptive palefaces could be. Surely this creamy-skinned, blue-eyed beauty was no different. But even as he tried to brutally punish her for her heritage, he was ensnared by the hip-length strands of wheat-hued tresses, enchanted by the firm curves of her nubile white body. Before the ruthless warrior could control himself, he was whispering of love, swearing there’d be no others. He could never marry this ignoble slave, but he’d sooner slay her than ever give up his bewitching CHEYENNE CAPTIVE.

Beauty And The Beast Director: Too Much Has Been Made Over Film’s Gay Moment, ‘Why Is It A Big Deal?’

Whether it was for press before release, or whether Bill Condon really just felt like sharing a teaser, everybody is talking about the live-action Beauty And The Beast‘s “exclusively gay moment” he teased last week.

It’s gone so viral, in fact, that Russia is considering issuing a nationwide ban on the movie to keep out gay propaganda.

Related: Turns Out It’s Not Just Russia Struggling With Openly Gay Characters

But now, Condon, the film’s director, is trying to right the ship about the “gay moment” in a new interview with ScreenCrush.

Speaking about the character, LeFou (played by Josh Gad) that is going to come out of the closet and give Disney its first openly gay character, Condon put the “gay moment” in relative terms, saying:

“Oh God. Can I just tell you? It’s all been overblown. Because it’s just this, it’s part of just what we had fun with. You saw the movie, yeah? You know what I mean. I feel like the kind of thing has been, I wish it were – I love the way it plays pure when people don’t know and it comes as a nice surprise … Why is it a big deal?”

Agreed, especially regarding the part about how a gay character — in 2017 — shouldn’t be a big deal!

And yet now that a country is considering banning the movie, and the initial quote has sparked all kinds of reaction from viewers both positive and… not-so-positive… well, here we are.

What do U think, Perezcious readers?! Is it a big deal that there’s an “exclusively gay moment” in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast?!
