Analyzing the Nike Flyknit Racer “Multicolor” Lineage

Since its inception in 2012, the Nike Flyknit Racer has undoubtedly been one of the brand’s more popular silhouettes incorporating Flyknit technology.

Defined by its lightweight, sleek and form-fitting design, the model is already offered in a variety of colorways, although, its multicolor variation is essentially the most sought after till this day.

The first “Multicolor” finish debuted on June 29, 2013, which incorporated a mixture of Blue Glow and Pink Flash throughout, while perfectly offset by Black accents located on the tongue, swooshes, and outsole. White Nike branding adorns the tongue, as it’s all adhered atop a Dark Grey/White midsole unit.

Returning in 2015 with a new twist, the sneaker this time, flaunted a mixture of Green Strike and Blue Lagoon, with contrasting Black accents complementing its overall profile again. Nike branding is evident on the tongue in vibrant blue, while it’s topped off with a white/black midsole unit and matching black outsole.

Interestingly, the original “Multicolor” design from 2013 was revived last year, but with a grey tongue instead. While it’s unclear why Nike decided to differentiate the 2016 version from being a true retro of its OG counterpart — this year, the Nike Flyknit Racer “Multicolor 2.0” that debuted in 2015 will be making its way towards store shelves once again tomorrow, April 7 for $150.

In other sneaker news, the Nike Kobe A.D. Derozan PE is releasing this weekend.

Hood By Air Is Going on “Hiatus” Effective Immediately

Back in March we reported that Hood By Air’s Shayne Oliver had joined Helmut Lang to work on a new capsule collection. Now less than a month later, Hood By Air has announced that it is going on hiatus, effective immediately.

According to a press release:

“Co-founders Shayne Oliver and Leilah Weinraub will be focusing on their current projects. Weinraub is currently developing her film and directorial career with her upcoming project ‘SHAKEDOWN,’ included in the Whitney Biennial in May. Oliver will be devoting himself in the immediate future to his responsibilities at Helmut Lang.”

When news of Oliver’s involvement with Helmut Lang broke last month, a representative for Hood By Air told Business of Fashion that “Shayne is currently focusing his time on the special project with Helmut Lang. As a result, HBA will be continued but is transitioning to accommodate this. We will be releasing more information soon.”

Despite the current disclosure of an HBA “hiatus,” the label still insists it “will continue to fulfill its creative vision in the near future.”
