1) Energy: Cocoa Chia Smoothie
By two in the afternoon, you’re ready to call it a day. Don’t throw in the towel just yet; what you really need is an afternoon “pick me up.” A cocoa chia smoothie is the way to go. This smoothie is an energy powerhouse that can get your workout ready. Chia seeds provide an array of health benefits, but for our purpose — energy. When dropped into a liquid, the seeds double in size and shape into a gel-like substance. The new formation of the seeds delays the change from carbohydrates to sugar, allowing you to have more energy for longer. And if your muscles are inflamed post-workout, the omega-3 fatty acid content can help reduce the inflammation. Also, if your looking to drop a few pounds, two tablespoons of chia seeds has twice the amount of fiber compared to a cup of oatmeal.
With cocoa powder, you’ll see more muscle pumps. It’s a nitric oxide booster that can improve muscle recovery and growth. A study published by the European Journal of Nutrition had a group of men consume dark chocolate pre-workout. The results: blood glucose levels were improved, insulin levels increased, and there were less oxidative stresses present. Enhanced blood glucose levels can give you more energy during an intense workout, and higher insulin levels can stimulate muscle growth. Experiencing less oxidative stress can expedite muscle recovery.
What You’ll Need
1 cup non-fat milk
1 scoop whey protein powder
2 tbs chia seeds
¼ cup cocoa powder
1 small banana
Totals: 332 calories, 4.5g fat, 31.5g carbs, 36g protein

2) Recovery: Pineapple-Pom Juice
Make sure you rest enough between workout routines — your muscles will let you know when you don’t. They’ll be sore, swollen, and aching. Before hitting any more workouts for the week, you need to recover, and a pineapple-pom drink will help alleviate the inflammation. Pineapple contains bromelain — an anti-inflammatory property. A study completed by Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise indicated that consuming foods containing bromelain can reduce muscular strength losses after intense workouts. Surprisingly enough, ginger is not just for your stomach but also muscles; it has been seen to help reduce muscle soreness.
What You’ll Need
1 cup pineapple
½ cup pomegranate juice
½ tsp ground ginger
Totals: 152 calories, 37g carbs

3) Pre-Workout: Beetroot Juice

If you’re up on supps, consider reaping more natural benefits from food. Beets are rich in nitrates, which can lower blood pressure, decrease the use of oxygen during exercise, and improve overall workout performance. The American Journal of Physiological Society completed a study where nine healthy individuals drank beetroot juice for six days. After ingesting the drink, they all had to complete moderate to intense workouts. It was seen that their workout tolerance was enhanced when the workout routines became more intense.
What You’ll Need
½ cup beets
1 cup strawberries
½ peeled navel orange
½ cup spinach
Totals: 118 calories, 26g carbs

4) Weight Loss: Green Tea Juice
If cutting season is upon you, try incorporating green tea into your diet. At only 97 calories and 20 grams of carbs, this recipe won’t destroy your macros. Green tea can help facilitate weight loss — that’s if it is included into your daily diet regime. Green tea contains catechins. A catechin is an antioxidant and the strongest one is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), yet not all green teas have the same amount and there is a significantly lesser amount if the tea is decaffeinated. UCLA’s Center for Human Nutrition compared the catechins and caffeine content of the most popular green tea bags. The two that contained the most were Celestial Seasonings Authentic Green Tea and Lipton Pure Green Tea.
Tip: adding agave syrup can help sweeten this drink without sabotaging the sugar content.
What You’ll Need
1 cup green tea
½ cup spinach
1 cup frozen mixed berries
½ tsp agave syrup
Totals: 97 calories, 20g carbs

5) Post-Workout: Peanut Butter Almond Smoothie
The No. 1 rule post-workout is to consume protein. To see more muscle, your hard-working muscles need to be refueled. Typical whey protein powders contain branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), and an influential one is leucine, which triggers muscle protein synthesis. To up the protein, simply add peanut butter and non-fat Greek yogurt. Also, pairing a protein with a carb will help replenish your glycogen stores.
What You’ll Need
1 scoop whey protein powder
½ cup blueberry non-fat Greek yogurt
1 small banana
1 tbsp peanut butter
½ cup unsweetened almond milk
Totals: 415 calories, 14g fat, 29g carbs, 44g protein

“This is actually a thank-you speech. I’m the beneficiary of all this because I get to spend every day with this wonderful man… I know that if our circumstances were different and we weren’t as fortunate to be standing here and living our Hollywood life, we would be happy in the woods together, I think.”
And their son, the adorable little Jack Pratt, was right there with them, being adorable in every pic. But he also stood as a reminder of their tough times; Jack was born premature and had health problems when he was very young.
But Anna says Chris helped her get through it all:
“At the premiere of Guardians 2, on the red carpet he whispered something unbelievably inappropriate into my ear and it was awesome. Honey, I want to thank you for being the most incredible person. I love you so much.”
Then Chris went all-out and DID make us cry! It was one of the most grateful speeches we’ve ever heard. He began:
“I’m a man of faith and I believe that God works in mysterious ways and gives us signs and gifts in life — and those gifts oftentimes come in the form of people. So I’ll just spend the rest of my time expressing gratitude for the people in my life who are gifts.”
“She gave absolutely everything she had to raise us, every fiber of her being. And oftentimes we weren’t cash-rich, but we were never love-poor. You gave everything and you were always proud of me, way before this. When I was a waiter at Coco’s you just couldn’t get enough of me.”
His brother Cully:
“He is my star and always has been. He played a major supporting role in raising me, and was a big fan of mine and always guided me and I love you.”
His sister Angie:
“She taught me how to fight, she taught me how to value emotions, she taught me how to have a backbone and she made some profound sacrifices for our family, so that I could be down here chasing my dreams.”
James Gunn and the Guardians franchise:
“It’s changed so many lives: My life, my wife’s life, the lives of children in hospitals, the lives of my real estate agent, my great grandkids — they’re all going to benefit.”
“I feel as though I’m just the shiny hood ornament on a well-oiled machine that they drive every single day.”
…and last but not least, Anna:
“I want to thank my wife Anna, I love you. You’ve given me so much. You gave me the greatest star in the galaxy in my little boy, I love him and I love you. We have bonded to make this molecule that is more important to me than air or water, and without it none of this means anything to me. With every challenge, with every day, week, month, decade, we become more bonded. You make me laugh like nobody else. You’re very caring, and thank you for your trust and your sacrifice — and for your dedication and your heart. I will do my best to protect it, and in return I will give you all of those things as well. You have my heart, my dedication, my trust.”

Editor’s Note: The above image is not an image of Nike’s “Ath-Denim”
It looks as if Nike is embarking on a mission to provide its customers with a new type of jeans. Enter, “ath-denim.”
The athletic company has recently filed a patent for “architecturally reinforced denim,” which in essence would be a jeans-jogging pant hybrid. This particular project would ultimately coincide with the brand’s “relentless flow of innovation,” as described by CEO Mark Parker.
The patent further details a denim fabric that provides “high tenacity” and “moisture management,” in addition to stretch in various proportions. Such pants would note separate but seamless “performance zones,” with the rear, thigh and calf areas presumably having different fabric weaves, as well as “padding for shock absorption.”
Currently, Nike offers a small range of men’s pants, including one denim iteration designed for skateboarders.
LONDON (CBSNewYork) — Princes William and Harry have expressed themselves like never before — going public with the struggles they felt after the death of their mother Princess Diana.
“Harry and I over the years, have not talked enough about our mother. You know — never enough,” William said.
As CBS2’s Dana Tyler reported, the brothers are sharing a story we all know, but not from their vantage point.
“I always thought to myself, ‘what’s the point of bringing up the past? What’s the point of bringing up something that’s only gonna make you sad?’ It ain’t gonna change it, it ain’t gonna bring her back,” Harry said.
The two princes sat down with Duchess Cate to talk about the death of Lady Diana and how it impacted them.
The brothers are amazingly close.
“We have been brought closer because of the circumstances as well, that’s the thing. You know you are, you know uniquely bonded because of what we’ve been through,” William said.
The conversation was part of a week of unprecedented revelations from the royals. They’re working to raise awareness about mental health.
“You always said to me, you said you gotta sit down and think about those memories, but for me it was like, don’t want to think about it,” Harry said.
For the brothers, the process took years, but they said it was critical to leading a happy life.
“You have to prioritize. you have to prioritize your mental health. you have to say to yourself at some point, cause it’s very easy to run away from it,” William said.
The video is part of the ‘Heads Together’ campaign which began last year.
