Vans and Lewis Cruise Recreate One of the Most Iconic Skate Spots, San Francisco’s Pier 7

Vans Canada teamed up with Lewis Cruise to recreate one of the most iconic skate spots of all time, San Francisco’s Pier 7. With all measurements exacted to-scale, taken from the original Pier 7 blocks, this is literally a skater’s dream come true.

The footage features Lee Yankou, Evan Hay, Nolan Waller, Zack Ferguson, Morgan Smith, Bobby Dekeyzer, Darrell Smith, Paul Liliani, Dustin Henry, Dylan Fulford, Neil Blackwood, Scott Balkwill, and Leon Chapdelaine, showing us what’s possible when you give skaters precisely what they want.

For those of you who don’t know the legend that is Pier 7, it’s simply one of the must-skate spots in San Francisco. As you’ll note from the Instagram clip above, cops aren’t always so eager for you to tear it up, so thankfully Vans Canada and Cruise stepped up to the plate and made this Pier 7 replica happen.

After watching the session in the gallery above, let us know what other legendary spots Vans should remake next.

Arm Fix: Tri Again for Bigger Triceps

Man Performing Triceps Pushdown At Gym

Triceps Pressdown

How To Do It

  1. ATTACH A V-BAR (or a rope handle) to the top pulley of a cable station and grasp an end in each hand. Hold it close to your body with elbows bent at 90 degrees. Bend your torso forward so you feel tension on the tri’s.
  2. PRESS THE HANDLE down and slightly forward as you extend your elbows. As you return to the starting position, draw your elbows back—think about how you would lower your body on a dip or a pushup. You should feel your triceps being stretched at their elbow insertion.

Modifying your pushdowns trains them according to the triceps’ strength curve. Beginning with your elbows back puts you in a strong position so you can lift more weight. Then, instead of extending your arms straight down, you move them forward a bit so your triceps work as they’re intended to—pushing away from you.

Pushdowns done with a V-bar let you go heavier. However, doing them with a rope is easier on your wrists.

Pharrell Unveils Exclusive “Human Race” Baby NMDs

Pharrell Williams is making footwear enthusiasts jealous once more, this time taking to Instagram to reveal a set of exclusive “Human Race” baby NMDs. Whether or not you could fit these bad boys on your feet, and it goes without saying, Pharrell is the plug should your baby need some new unreleased NMD heat.

Thank you Thank you Thank you! @adidasoriginals

While the silhouette isn’t the most sought after adidas release, it hasn’t stopped Skateboard P or adidas from pushing the concept whenever possible. This was most recently shown on the crisp white/pink “Human Race” model that debuted earlier this month.

This news also follows reports surrounding Pharrell’s childhood being made into a musical. Maybe we can expect the children in the musical to sport exclusive NMDs as well? We could only hope.

Police: Man Carjacked, Kidnapped NJ College Student For 6 Hours

WAYNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A man is accused of carjacking and kidnapping a Passaic County student at a fast-food drive-thru and then taking him on a six-hour ride of terror.

At around 9 p.m. Thursday, a 19-year-old Passaic County Tech student attending night school stopped by a McDonald’s on Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne, CBS2’s Alice Gainer reported. A man approached his car asking to use the student’s cellphone.

The man gained “entrance to his car and begins threatening him, threatening to do different things,” said police Capt. Laurence Martin. “He’s acting violently in the car.”

From there, police say, he made the student drive to two different ATMs in nearby Paterson and take out $190, acting as his chauffeur for all things illegal.

“Buys crack, services of some prostitutes or attempts to get services of prostitutes,” Martin said.

The terror finally ended for the student around 3 a.m. at a 7-Eleven parking lot in Wanaque, where he was somehow able to go inside and call police.

Wanaque police came and arrested 35-year-old Travis Mann, who tried to run, authorities said.

They say he was acting belligerent, had a crack pipe on him and was possibly on K2 synthetic marijuana.

Mann is known to local police. In fact, he wears an ankle bracelet — a bracelet he repeatedly showed to the scared student.

Mann, who has a long rap sheet, was last charged with robbing a store in Elmwood Park in February. He was released as part of New Jersey’s new bail reform law.

“Extremely shocking,” said Jim Freeswick, of Wayne. “Things like that don’t happen in Wayne, as far as I know. It’s horrible.

“It is very surprising because Wayne’s normally pretty boring and not too much happens,” said another man.

The student did not want to speak on camera. He was physically unharmed, but police say he is emotionally distraught and still fears for his life.

Mann faces a long list of charges, including kidnapping, carjacking, drug possession and making terroristic threats.

Apple Hires NASA Augmented Reality Expert Jeff Norris

Apple has hired Jeff Norris, an augmented reality expert who founded the Mission Operations Innovation Office at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, reports Bloomberg.

Norris has reportedly joined Apple as a senior manager working on the augmented reality team led by Mike Rockwell, who formerly ran Dolby Labs. The team is said to be working on the previously-rumored augmented reality smart glasses as well as AR features for future versions of the iPhone.

Prior to joining Apple, Norris worked at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he was employed since 1999. Along with founding the Mission Operations Innovation Office, he founded the JPL Ops Lab for developing human-system interfaces for mission operations, and he led multiple projects focused on human-system interaction with an emphasis on virtual and augmented reality.

On his website, Norris features a speech he gave on augmented reality and Nasa’s JPL Ops Lab, much of which was focused on augmented reality headsets and their uses.

Under Norris’ leadership, the JPL Ops Lab provided the Microsoft HoloLens to astronauts onboard the International Space Station and developed software for virtually working on Mars with the HoloLens.

For the last couple of years, Apple has taken a deep interest in augmented and virtual reality, and is said to have a large team of employees working on the technologies and exploring ways they could be used in future Apple products.

Apple has been working on both virtual reality headsets and augmented reality smart glasses, with the aim of launching the latter in 2018. We’ve also heard rumors suggesting augmented reality functionality could be incorporated into the iPhone, perhaps as early as the iPhone 8 set to be released this September.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed his excitement about augmented reality several times in recent months. “I think AR is that big, it’s huge. I get excited because of the things that could be done that could improve a lot of lives,” he said in February of 2017.
