Kidnapped Teen’s Family Members Speak Out After Teacher Tad Cummins Claims Their Daughter ‘Wanted To Run Away’

The manhunt is over. Kidnapped teen Elizabeth Thomas is home safe, and her teacher Tad Cummins is in police custody.

But in the aftermath of the nationwide search, there are still a lot of unanswered questions.

In case you missed it, Cummins’ sister, Daphne Quinn, was on The Today Show Monday to talk about what her troubled brother and his family were going through. And she said:

“I asked him, ‘Why would you do this?’ And the answer she gave was she wanted to run away, and she wanted to leave. And he didn’t want her to go alone. So he went with her so that he could know she was safe.”

You can see that whole interview (below):

Shortly after that aired, Elizabeth’s father, Anthony Thomas, and older sister, Kat Bozeman, spoke to Ashleigh Banfield on Primetime Justice.

In response to Cummins’ claim that he was just going with her to keep her safe, Anthony said:

“If that’s what he calls guidance, he’s a very poor excuse for a teacher, an authority figure, a father, and in fact he’s a poor excuse for a human being.”

See the fair response from an obviously angry family (below):

Elizabeth’s family also gave an update on her health, saying:

“She didn’t look like herself at all. She looked like she was very worn out, very thin. And very jittery.”

They also spoke about the upcoming trial and what they would learn from it was hitting them:

Finally, the fam spoke about what she had revealed about what happened:

This poor family seems to have as many questions as we do.

One thing is clear. This case is far from over.

Free Book – Python 3 Object-oriented Programming

Python 3 Object-oriented Programming – Second Edition ($31.19 Kindle), by Dusty Phillips, is free this morning, direct from Packt Publishing.

Book Description
Python 3 is more versatile and easier to use than ever. It runs on all major platforms in a huge array of use cases. Coding in Python minimizes development time and increases productivity in comparison to other languages. Clean, maintainable code is easy to both read and write using Python’s clear, concise syntax.

Object-oriented programming is a popular design paradigm in which data and behaviors are encapsulated in such a way that they can be manipulated together. Many modern programming languages utilize the powerful concepts behind object-oriented programming and Python is no exception.

Starting with a detailed analysis of object-oriented analysis and design, you will use the Python programming language to clearly grasp key concepts from the object-oriented paradigm. This book fully explains classes, data encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, abstraction, and exceptions with an emphasis on when you can use each principle to develop well-designed software.

You’ll get an in-depth analysis of many common object-oriented design patterns that are more suitable to Python’s unique style. This book will not just teach Python syntax, but will also build your confidence in how to program.

You will also learn how to create maintainable applications by studying higher level design patterns. Following this, you’ll learn the complexities of string and file manipulation, and how Python distinguishes between binary and textual data. Not one, but two very powerful automated testing systems will be introduced in the book. After you discover the joy of unit testing and just how easy it can be, you’ll study higher level libraries such as database connectors and GUI toolkits and learn how they uniquely apply object-oriented principles. You’ll learn how these principles will allow you to make greater use of key members of the Python eco-system such as Django and Kivy.

This new edition includes all the topics that made Python 3 Object-oriented Programming an instant Packt classic. It’s also packed with updated content to reflect recent changes in the core Python library and covers modern third-party packages that were not available on the Python 3 platform when the book was first published.

Get the free book from Packt Publishing. Click on Claim, log in and the book gets added to your bookshelf; you can download a DRM-Free EPUB, Mobi (Kindle) or PDF. You can also access any code files and send the the book to your Kindle Library from the My Ebooks page.

Proposed Safe Injection Facilities Renew Debate Over Treatment Of Drug Addiction

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Imagine having facilities where drug users go to get high, with nurses supervising to assure it’s all done as safely as it can be.

That’s a controversial concept being tried in some places around the country that could be heading to our area.

Places where drug users can get high with a medical professional are known as supervised, or safe, injection facilities. They aim to provide a clean and sterile environment for illegal drug users, and they’re supported by more than 100 health care professionals in New York City.

On Tuesday, they started a state-wide push to get elected officials to listen.

“So people bring their own drugs that they’ve obtained — unfortunately illegally — and bring them into a place where they can use, and then they make referrals to housing, to methadone, to detox,” nurse Liz Evans tells CBS2’s Emily Smith.

Safe injection facilities are currently illegal in New York State. Seattle lawmakers recently approved opening a safe site, and Boston is getting close to doing the same — it now has medical monitoring sites for people who have already injected illegal drugs.

The sites have been popular in Europe for decades.

“If it’s supervised and regulated I think that’s great,” one woman said. ” We have a terrible heroin epidemic in the United States.”

“Let’s ask Seattle to check in in about a year or two,” another woman said.

Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds with the Family and Children’s Association works with drug addicts every day, and says these kinds of safe sites seem to be a last resort.

It’s a concept he says he just can’t get behind.

“We are saying just come on in,” he tells CBS2. “We will even help you put the needle in your arm. So for me, it feels like it goes too far.”

Those who are in favor of the facilities say they’re far from giving up.

“We don’t have time to waste,” Cassandra Frederick of the Drug Policy Alliance tells CBS2. “There are parents burying children and loved ones every single day.”

Supporters say it offers a chance to reach out to addicts, and helps get a handle on the epidemic’s side effects such as hepatitis C, AIDS, and death from overdose.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, opioid and heroin overdoses killed more than 52,000 people in 2015 — more than traffic accidents and homicides combined, CBS2 reported.
