After unveiling the V8 and V12 Vantage S Red Bull Editions earlier this year, Aston Martin now unveils a brand new variation of the vehicle with the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTE.
With the car’s design based off the 2019 Vantage coupe, the Vantage GTE is equipped with a 4.0-liter Mercedes-Benz V8 engine. Although the company did not fully reveal its power figures, Aston Martin does claim that the GTE makes in excess of 536 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which is more than the standard Vantage.
The Vantage GTE has already undergone around 8000 miles of testing, including a test at Sebring and a 30-hour run at Jarama in Spain, however, it’s still in development, since the company plans on running it in the World Endurance Championship’s (WEC) 2018/2019 transitional super series. Other key additions include GTE’s suspension developed in partnership with Ohlins, brakes coming from Alcon and Michelin tires used instead of the old Vantage GTE’s Dunlops.
Set to make its official debut at the race tracks in 2018, Aston Martin will retain four drivers it used last season too, consisting of Le Mans winners Jony Adam and Darren Turner to be in one car, while the other pair includes 2016 WEC GTE Pro champs, Danes Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen.
President of Aston Martin Racing, David King shared, “Motorsport is fundamental to the DNA of Aston Martin and our commitment to the FIA World Endurance Championship is stronger than ever. This is a golden era for GT racing and today’s launch of the new Vantage GTE wil ensure that Aston Martin Racing remains at the forefront of the world’s greatest endurance series. The team has enjoyed incredible success over recent years with the outgoing V8 Vantage GTE and while this will hold fond memories for me, I can’t wait to see the new car race in anger at Spa next year and continue to write motorsport history.”
