Billboard: There are these rumors that you’re dating Kylie and having a child with her…

TS: I don’t want to talk about that. They’re just guesses. Let them keep fishing.

Despite Stock Market Surge, Many Americans Reluctant To Invest

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Wall Street has been on a record run, but fewer and fewer Americans are investing in stocks outside of their 401Ks.

So what is the best move for small investors? CBS2’s Jessica Moore got some advice from financial experts.

From Wall Street to the White House, there were celebrations Friday over the soaring stock market.

“Wow, that’s all I can say,” financial expert Melody Hobson said.

“It has been a strong first week of the year, and the Dow has sailed past the 25,000 mark,” financial expert Jill Schlesinger said.

“The stock market is up very, very big today. We’ve set new records, and I think they’ll be continued to set,” said President Donald Trump.

Since Trump was elected, the Dow is up 37 percent. Financial experts credit the second-longest bull market in United States history to new corporate tax breaks, a near two-decade low unemployment level at 4.1 percent and economic growth worldwide.

Read More: Will Yearlong Market Surge Continue Into 2018?

Equally as shocking as the sustained surge is the number of individual investors who have pulled out of the market entirely, Moore reported.

According to a 2017 Gallup poll, between 2001 and 2008, 62 percent of American reported owning stocks. Between 2009 and 2017, the number shrunk to 54 percent.

“They are suffering from what I call post traumatic stress disorder from the financial crisis,” said Hobson.

“Once you get snake bitten, it’s very hard to head back into the woods,” Morgan Stanley financial advisor Scott Foster echoed. “That doesn’t mean you jump into the market. You do your research, you look to speak to your adviser, you think about what your risk tolerance is. The markets could go on for another – this could be the eighth or ninth inning. We don’t know where we are in the innings.”

He says while some people are reluctant to re-invest, others are riding the surge too high and can become overly invested.

“Now, it’s an even more important time to re-balance it back to your original asset allocation, because that started with the beginning conversation,” he said. “What does risk mean to you? Risk mitigation is more important than performance. People get very emotional, they like to keep running with the markets where they’ve been.”

If you’re still reluctant to invest, economists say most people with 401Ks are reaping the benefits of this financially historic moment without even realizing it. And for those nearing retirement, stability becomes paramount.

If this trend continues for another 10 months, it will become the longest bull market ever.

Travis Scott graces the front cover of Billboard magazine this month, as the 25-year-old rapper is the main focus in the newest issue. With a successful 2017 under his belt, and looking to continue the momentum in the new year, Scott has been busy working on his upcoming album Astroworld – which is expected to drop in the first quarter of 2018 – as well as frequently visiting his rumored girlfriend Kylie Jenner, who is reportedly pregnant with his child.

Billboard recently caught up with the Houston superstar to further delve into his 2018 plans:

…on his workflow.

TS: “I’ve been on this schedule for the past six, seven years. I got too much shit to do, too much ground to cover. My whole life, I ain’t been on vacation.”

…on having time off.

TS: “Shit, Heaven — hopefully.”

…on wanting to be like his friend and mentor Kanye West, to be recognized for his singular vision.

TS: “That’s my mission, man. I worked so hard on Rodeo and Birds. It might not have been recognized by the masses, but my fans always went hard. This year I’m on a mission to be heard.”

…on the legal issue regarding a fan that fell from a Terminal 5 balcony.

TS: “Nothing we do is meant to harm nobody. Kids having fun is being mistaken for violence.”

…on details of his upcoming album, Astroworld.

TS: “I don’t even know what’s going to be on it yet,” Scott also implies that Kanye West is involved in some fashion saying, “I played him some joints. We’re always talking. We’re always working on shit. I see him every day.”

…on not crediting himself with production on his own tracks.

TS: “As a producer, I used to hate it when people tried to take credit for my shit. Sometimes, being an artist might overshadow the producer, and I’m always for the producer.”

…on dealing with pregnancy rumors regarding Kylie. (Billboard: There are these rumors that you’re dating Kylie and having a child with her…)

TS: “I don’t want to talk about that. They’re just guesses. Let them keep fishing.”

…on his burgeoning fame.

TS: “There’s good and bad to it,” he says. “It’s how you live your life. You just got to stay focused. Can’t let motherfuckers throw you off.”

Demi Lovato may be best known as a singer-songwriter and actress, but lately she’s made it known that her dedication to fitness is on par with her dedication to her craft. She shares plenty of her fitness endeavors on social media, and she’s even created three activewear capsule collections for Kate Hudson’s Fabletics

But she’s not always as confident as she seems, she revealed in an Instagram post on Thursday.

“So, I’m insecure about my legs in this picture,” Lovato writes in the caption, “but I’m posting it because I look so happy and this year I’ve decided I’m letting go of my perfectionism and embracing freedom from self criticism.”

Lovato went on to reference her public struggle with body image and an eating disorder, calling it the “most challenging journey of her life”.

“Learning to love my body the way it is is challenging but life changing,” she writes. “Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life but I work every day towards solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes. Today I’m feeling strong. You all can do it too. It IS possible. Thank you God for this new chapter in my life.”

Lovato’s Instagram is a testament to her fitness commitment and to being open with fans in hopes of helping anyone who may be going through anything similar. Her fans come out in droves to thank her for her authenticity on inspirational posts like the one above, which has already amassed nearly 3 million likes.

In her YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated, Lovato opens up about struggling with bulimia and drug addiction, and about the way she finally found the right medicine through fitness.

“Working out is a form of meditation for me because I’m not focused on anything in my head,” she said in the film. “It can transport you to a totally different place.”

Mick Foley Talks About His History on WWE ‘Raw’ and the Show’s Legacy

Mick Foley

As WWE’s Raw hits its 25-year milestone, fans often discuss their favorite “eras” of the show. One period comes up more than anything else though — the “Attitude” era, the period in the late 90’s when WWE embraced pushing the envelope to compete against their bitter rival WCW.

The Attitude Era is known for cultivating a number of now-famous superstars, including “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Triple H, and —perhaps most surprisingly— WWE Hall-of-Famer Mick Foley, most famously known as “Mankind.”

Foley had originally made a name for himself as the deranged Cactus Jack in WCW and ECW and helped popularize “hardcore” sports entertainment, going as far as to use barbed wire and thumbtacks in the ring. As a result, few people expected him to join the WWE. So what happened?

[RELATED1]

When asked, Foley laughs and admits it wasn’t his idea. “It was a matter of Jim Ross convincing Mr. McMahon to give this unlikely guy a shot. And then Mr. McMahon agreeing, under the condition that he would cover up my face. So there was the genesis of the Mankind character in a nutshell.”

He continued by saying, “I liked a lot of the things they were doing. I realized I had actually worked with a lot of the guys in the company at one time or another. And so, one day in late 1995 my phone rang, and I went in for my meeting.”

As Mankind, Foley would act wild in the ring and popularized the infamous “mandible claw” finisher, often introducing his opponents to “Mr. Socko” (a sock puppet) in the process. Mankind eventually became a fan-favorite, famously winning the WWE Championship on an episode of Raw.

While some may argue that the “hardcore” style that Foley made famous is no longer in style, he disagrees with this claim: “I’ve always gone with the Terry Funk theory that hardcore is not about stipulations or toys, but about being willing to give the fans a performance above and beyond expectations. And with that in mind, there’s a lot of hardcore people in WWE. It’s every guy that gives their best despite a nagging injury. It’s every guy who delivers a great performance even if a particular crowd may not be what they’re hoping for. I think guys work harder night in and night out now than they ever have.”

Over 20 years later, Foley has participated in Raw in various incarnations, most recently as General Manager prior to Kurt Angle. While he admits he doesn’t watch every night, he’s still an avid fan of the show.

Ultimately, Foley feels that a big part of Raw’s staying power is how it still manages to keep people excited. “Every couple weeks there are surprises in store for me. I still enjoy it. I think it’s a credit to the show that they can take somebody who is watching every week, and give them something to look forward to every Monday. And then for people like me, and literally millions of other people, it’s just nice to know it’s there so that when we go by the channel, we find ourselves gravitating towards it. And maybe we stick around for 30 minutes, maybe we stick around for two and a half hours. But it’s the only show that’s always there every week.”

The 25th anniversary of Monday Night Raw will emanate from Barclays Center and Manhattan Center in New York City on Monday, January 22, and air live on USA Network at 8/7C. Tickets are available for each event through all Ticketmaster outlets.
