On the Charts: ‘Greatest Showman’ Soundtrack Ascends to Number One

The Greatest Showman finished atop the first Billboard 200 of 2018 as the soundtrack for the circus musical climbed to Number One in its fourth week of availability.

The soundtrack – featuring songs performed by Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron and Zendaya – sold 106,000 total copies as the album completed its four-week ascension from Number 71 to Number 63 to Number Five to Number One. The Greatest Showman also became the first soundtrack to top the album charts since Fifty Shades Darker in March 2017, Billboard reports.

No major new releases hit shelves as the calendar turned to 2018, leaving the Top 10 largely unchanged. Ed Sheeran’s Divide remained at Number Two for a second straight week, followed by Taylor Swift’s Reputation, G-Eazy’s The Beautiful & Damned and Kendrick Lamar’s Damn. at Numbers Three through Five respectively.

The bottom half of the Top 10 also boasted a batch of returnees led by Eminem’s Revival at Number Six. Imagine Dragons’ Evolve jumped back into the Top 10 at Number Seven, followed by Post Malone’s Stoney at Number Eight, Travis Scott and Quavo’s Huncho Jack collaboration at Number Nine and Khalid’s American Teen at Number 10 and 31,000 total copies.

Look for next week’s Top 10 to look familiar as this week was once again bereft of notable new releases.

Islanders Down Devils In Shootout

NEW YORK (AP) — Brock Nelson scored the only goal in the shootout to lift the New York Islanders over the New Jersey Devils 5-4 on Sunday.

The victory snapped a five-game losing streak for the Islanders, who trailed 4-2 early in the third period.

Nelson beat Devils netminder Cory Schneider in the fifth round of the shootout.

Jaroslav Halak made 42 saves for the Islanders.

The Devils lost their fifth straight before both teams start a league-mandated five-day break.

Cal Clutterbuck and rookie Sebastian Aho tied the game with third-period goals after Miles Wood and Taylor Hall had given the Devils a 4-2 lead early in the period.

Clutterbuck’s tying goal came at 15:43 after Aho narrowed the deficit to 4-3 with his first career goal at 7:58. Aho’s power-play score was assisted by John Tavares and Mathew Barzal, who leads all rookies with 26 assists.

Wood’s 11th goal this season came at 2:41 of the third and snapped a 2-2 tie.

Hall made it 4-2 for the visitors at 3:18 with his 15th goal, after which Halak smashed his stick over the crossbar in frustration.

Travis Zajac’s fifth goal of the season and second of the game at 16:25 of the second came while the Devils were short-handed and tied the game at 2. It was the ninth short-handed goal allowed by the Islanders this season.

Anthony Beauvillier put the Islanders ahead 2-1 with his fifth of the season at 10:44 of the second after Zajac scored his first of the game at 4:43 of the middle period.

The Devils had a 15-1 shots advantage six minutes into the game — and outshot the home team 21-10 overall in the first — but it was the Islanders who scored first when Anders Lee knocked a rebound past Schneider for his 25th goal at 15:28.

The Islanders were without injured forwards Josh Bailey and Andrew Ladd, both of whom were hurt during Friday’s 4-0 home loss to Pittsburgh. It was first missed game this season for both players.

They also continued to miss key defensemen Johnny Boychuk and Calvin de Haan. Boychuk has been out for the past six games while de Haan hasn’t played since suffering a shoulder injury in an overtime win over Los Angeles on Dec. 16.

Alan Quine took Bailey’s place on right wing the team’s top line with Tavares at center and Lee on the left.

Bailey with Tavares and Lee combined for 57 points in December, making the trio the highest scoring line in the league.

NOTES: The Devils are 11-2-8 in one-goal games. … The teams meet again at Barclays Center on Jan. 16, then in Newark on Feb. 24 and March 31. … The Devils played with 11 forwards and seven defensemen, scratching forwards Drew Stafford, Jimmy Hayes and Stefan Noesen. … The Islanders scratched defenseman Dennis Seidenberg.

UP NEXT

Devils: Next Saturday at home against Philadelphia.

Islanders: Next Saturday afternoon at Rangers.

Golden Globes 2018: Get Ready For Even More Black Dresses Than Expected On The Red Carpet!

Now that we’re just a few hours out from the Golden Globes red carpet in El Lay, stylists are starting to come out of the woodwork and report on exactly how many black dresses they’ve been putting together for celebs to walk the red carpet today!

As we’ve been reporting, female stars led by the likes of Meryl Streep have long been planning to wear black dresses to the show tonight as a protest and silent statement against sexual harassment and misconduct rampant in Hollywood.

But now, we’re learning it’s actually going to be way more women than anyone initially thought!!!

One of the most famous tailors to the stars who typically dresses celebs for events like this has come out — anonymously — to reveal that there has been an “insane run” on black dresses in the last two weeks at their shop.

Not only that, the owner has apparently hired TEN more staff members (to a typical staff of five) just in the last week or so to handle the swell of celebs and Globes-goers specifically seeking black dresses for the event tonight.

And it’s not only the tailor here, either — typically stylists will drop off two or three black dresses to give celebs a choice along with other pieces for an event like this, but according to TMZ, at tailor and styling shops like this, each different stylist has now been dropping off more than ten black dresses to each shop along their route.

In other words, celebs are clamoring for options in black, and designers are trying to oblige.

The end result? There is going to be a TON of black on the red carpet tonight!!!

Of course, some are arguably right to criticize this as a empty statement, but it is going to make for a powerful look on the carpet and a reminder in pics forever about what these women are standing for — and what they’re standing against.

Lord Jamar Launches His New Podcast ‘Yanadameen Godcast’

Over the past five years, Lord Jamar became one of the most notably outspoken rappers to brew out of hip-hop culture due to his vivid presence on the couch of DJ Vlad. His commentary on Macklemore‘s act of promoting the gay agenda and mostly recalled commentary on Kanye West‘s fashion sense (as he was known to rock skirts) went viral and was powerful enough to trigger responses from fellow rappers securing his stance as the controversial voice of hip-hop.

For the true hip-hop purist, Lord Jamar is more than just that black guy DJ Vlad interviews every week. He is herald as a hip-hop legend, being one of the wordsmiths of the iconic collective Brand Nubian, which consists of Sadat X, Grand Puba, and DJ Alamo. The group’s prime time is sanctioned in the 90s as their spawned classics in the likes of “All for One,” “Slow Down,” and most notably “Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down” showcased a sound that was “one of a kind” bringing forth a strict sense of knowledge of self, black social matters, and heterosexual bonds.

On Sunday (Jan. 7) Lord Jamar launched the first episode of his podcast, The Yanadameen Godcast with Lord Jamar. Stationed in what appears to be a home studio, the backdrop is filled with “items” that represent the ambiance of his Godcast which involve the show’s logo, an animated figure of the hip-hop notable that personifies his viral #bookphonechallenge rocking Brand Nubian merch in signature stance, the Universal Flag, one identical to the cover of his classic solo album The 5% Album-pasted to a wine glass, along with his beat machine.

The Yanadameen Godcast with Lord Jamar will feature the Brand Nubian emcee answering common or exclusive questions from the masses along with interviews with mostly “interesting” and “ordinary” people. Jamar bears little interest in interviewing A-listers or viral personalities. The podcast will be a clear scope of the broad world and unapologetic mind of Lord Jamar, a slant majority of his fan base prefers to witness, where he somewhat refines during his DJ Vlad segments.

“We want you to come on the journey with us and we gonna bring to you what you expect to be Lord Jamar,” says the unapologetic personality. “You expect that real shit. That raw shit. That unadulterated truth. And you gonna get that here on the Yanadameen Godcast with Lord Jamar.”

The podcast starts off with Lord Jamar singling out The Breakfast Club for what he finds to be their way of possibly in an unconscious manner subliminally supporting the lifestyle of the LGBT community, a community he has frequently vocally expressed his opposed preference about in the past.

“The subliminal message that’s given when somebody sits on a set and has a gay flag behind them, The subliminal message says that that person supports, you know, the LGBT, whatever the letters are, that they support that lifestyle.”

He notes how most guests are unconscious of the act, and there is a great chance hosts Charlamagne, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy are also unaware of such influence but points out the one guest who was and forced the change in scenery for their appearance, The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

“I’m not gonna sit here and say that Charlamagne the God or any of the hosts up there, Envy, Angela Yee are even conscious of this. And definitely, most of the guests up there are not conscious of the subliminal psychological message that’s being said. But one guest who was aware of this and who went as far as creating his own background and backdrop for what he wanted behind him was The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan,” Lord Jamar recalls.

The first episode proceeds on to its first interview with “interesting” guest The Chinese Puff Daddy, a man who was once a royalty coordinator at the RIAA and Jamar goes on to elaborate on the current beef between RBG personalities Tariq Nasheed and Umar Johnson.
