Free Book – No Place for a Lady

No Place for a Lady ($2.99 Kindle), the first novel in the Regency Rags to Riches series by Jade Lee, is free from Barnes & Noble, courtesy of publisher ePublishing Works!.

Book Description

The London rookeries are slums, rife with criminals, and shunned by the upper crust.

But someone there intends to murder one of England’s greatest leaders, and Marcus Kane, Lord Chadwick, will follow every clue, even into the bowels of London’s underground. But he can’t find his way alone.

A partner is required.

Fantine (Fanny) Delarive is perfect. She knows the slums better than anyone, has survived its labyrinth alone for years, and knows every criminal lurking in every dark corner.

Then, the investigation detours the pair into the bright ballrooms of the ton.

And Fantine fits in here, too.

Which changes everything.

Lord Chadwick knows a woman of Fantine’s ilk is entirely unsuitable for him. But she’s infinitely more exciting than any well-born lady he’s ever met.

Now much more than an acquaintance with the independent, self-reliant Fantine is required… and it must end with nothing less than marriage.

Pedestrians are reflected in the window of the Australian Securities Exchange next to a board displaying stock prices in central SydneyAsian share markets got off to a sluggish start on Monday in a packed week for global economic news that is book ended by the U.S. jobs report, a key input into the Federal Reserve's decision on when to start lifting rates. Australian stocks were a fraction lower on concerns over bank earnings while South Korea's main index inched up 0.2 percent. The HSBC/Markit PMI for South Korea set an ill omen, falling to a six-month trough of 48.8 in April.

OITNB Star Taylor Schilling Shuts Down Social Media Fame, and The Kim K Culture!

About time someone’s had the guts to say it!

Obviously, this generation is entirely too consumed in social media and technology, to the point that we didn’t even see this one coming. Star of the hit Netflix series, Orange Is The New Black, Taylor Schilling didn’t hold her tongue on the topic in the new June issue of ELLE Canada. Schilling expresses that the internet only makes you feel more alone, depending on likes and comments from others about your lifestyle is not the direction for true happiness.

“There is something so sad about going online and seeing almost everyone shouting ‘Notice me, notice me!’ Which is such a human desire—to be acknowledged,” she says. “But me responding to that with some sort of ‘You’re noticed, you’re seen’ only perpetuates the loneliness. Because I’m not seeing you; I’m not noticing you.”

Schilling, 30, believes that validation should not be dependent on social media. Does she have a point? Ladies lets rewind and think about it here – How many time’s have you gone shopping and thought about how many likes you’d get on Instagram with this? Be honest because that’s the problem. Taylor went on in to explain that people on social media sites are not being truthful and she’d rather live in the real world than in these platforms.

“It has almost become a defiant thing at this point because I do not believe this celebrity Kim Kardashian culture is what I signed up for,” she tells the magazine. “I’d rather create something honest than try to create something for a social-media account.”

It’s very unlikely to run into someone without a social media profile regardless of what site. She explains that it takes more courage to be real online than in real life.

“It takes a lot of bravery to be authentic and honest and to take that social mask off in order to connect with another human being. So much of what makes us who we are is smoothed away online. And what truly connects us is the wrinkles, not the smoothness.”

Would you dare putting a photo up where everything wasn’t On Fleek ? Taylor Schilling may be hitting the nail right on the head.

Stephen Curry to be Named the 2014-2015 NBA MVP Tomorrow

It’s all over folks

Stephen Curry, aka Chef Curry, aka DID YOU JUST SEE THAT?, will be named the NBA’s 2014-2015 Most Valuable Player tomorrow, according to Bay Area CSN and reputable sources at Yahoo! Sports.

Curry, the Davidson University sharpshooter drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the 7th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, has had a sensational season that’s as impressive by the numbers as it is by the ridiculous YouTube and Vine highlights. Curry averaged 24 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds a game while shooting 44% from behind the arc and stealing the ball a career-best 2 times per contest. If the numbers on paper aren’t enough, consider the fact that he led his Warriors to a league-best record of 67-15, just 5 games shy of Michael Jordan‘s ’95/’96, 72-10 Chicago Bulls, who finished the season in 1996 with the best regular season record in NBA history.

Under Curry’s watchful and dominant eye, the Warriors–along with new head coach Steve Kerr–went from a flashy team with a high ceiling to arguably the best 2-way team in basketball. Curry made his teammates better, helping along the offensive games of Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes and Klay Thompson, who experienced such success at the shooting guard position he was named an All-Star for the first time in his career.

That being said, this was undoubtedly one of the tougher MVP races to judge in recent years. James Harden has enjoyed one of the best seasons in NBA history by a 2-guard, and he launched his Rockets to the #2 seed in the West despite significant starters missing extended time due to injury. On the back end of the ballot sat a constantly record-breaking Russell Westbrook (whose case was not helped by the Thunder missing the playoffs), another stellar year from LeBron James and the first of many oh-my-gosh years from Anthony Davis.
