Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard Return to Number One With New Album

Country legends Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard have made their way back to the top of the heap. Their duets album, Django and Jimmie, has debuted at Number One on the Billboard Country Albums chart, and in the Number Seven spot on the all-genre Billboard 200.

Produced by Buddy Cannon and featuring 14 brand new recordings, the album’s title is a reference to Nelson and Haggard’s heroes — jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and one of country’s first stars, Jimmie Rodgers.

“We’ve been talking about it for about 18 months,” Haggard told Rolling Stone Country about the project back in April. “We’ve been back and forth on the phone about what kind of song we needed to find, and we (even) wrote a couple of songs on the phone. When we got into the studio, it was probably three or four days, max.”

The longtime friends have famously worked together in the past, scoring another Number One album in 1983 with the classic Pancho and Lefty.

“It’s a mutual-admiration society with us,” Nelson said about collaborating with Haggard. “Merle’s one of the best. There’s not anyone out there that can beat him. Maybe Kris Kristofferson. But then you start running out of names.”

The album’s first single is “It’s All Going to Pot,” an obvious allusion to Nelson and Haggard’s well-known fondness for marijuana, but also a riff on current events. The song was written by Cannon, Jamey Johnson and Larry Shell. Haggard and Nelson wrote or co-wrote a combined total of eight of the new tracks.

Speaking with Rolling Stone Country in May, Nelson hinted that a tandem tour could be a possibility, depending on how the album was received.

“In fact, I was talking to some folks today — I was gonna see what they thought of making us do a tour of it when (the album) comes out,” Nelson said. “We ought to do whatever we can get — as many days as we need to, because I know it’s a good record. I think it might sell a couple.”

Ghostface Killah, Adrian Younge Share Eerie New Track

Ghostface Killah, “the Almighty GFK,” has reunited with composer-producer Adrian Younge for Twelve Reasons to Die II, a sequel to their collaborative 2013 LP. The album is out July 10th via Linear Labs, and the duo have shared its second single, “Let the Record Spin,” which features a cameo from Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon.

“I’m back blowing dust off the vinyl,” Ghostface raps over Younge’s eerie blend of blaring organ, mellotron-flute and sparse drums. “Let’s unify, formulate a plan / Shut ‘em down in the worst way,” adds Raekwon in his nimble guest verse. Listen below.

Twelve Reasons to Die II follows up the 1960s Mafioso storyline from the original album/comic book, and a statement describes the new installment as “darker and more sinister” than its predecessor. The LP was composed, produced and performed entirely by Younge, taking inspiration from “vintage Italian horror scores” and “classic Wu-Tang production.”

The first album starred Ghostface as Tony Starks, an enforcer for an Italian crime family, the DeLucas, who is murdered by the group after falling in love with the mob boss’ daughter. His remains were pressed into 12 vinyl records, which, when played, resurrected the character in a quest for revenge. The sequel is set in the “grimy streets of mid-1970s New York City,” where DeLuca descendants have established control. A new crime syndicate led by gangster Lester Kane (played by Raekwon) gains power, building to an all-out war.

Other guests include RZA (as the narrator), Bilal and Vince Staples. The standard version of the album is available for pre-order on iTunes. Details of various specialty versions – including vinyl bundles and a massive box set – are available at the Linear Labs website

Thomas Rhett, Brett Eldredge to Headline CMT Fall Tour

Two of country music’s more dapper dudes, Thomas Rhett and Brett Eldredge, are hitting the road together. This fall, the pair will bring their brand of metro-country to cities across the nation as the co-headliners of the 14th Annual CMT On Tour. Dates will be announced later this year.

Dubbed the Suits & Boots Tour, a nod to Rhett and Eldredge’s often GQ-level fashion sense, the CMT-sponsored trek will also feature Danielle Bradbery as a special guest. The “Crash and Burn” singer and the Frank Sinatra crooner announced the tour during a well-scripted Twitter exchange this afternoon, and took good-natured pot shots at each other in a video they posted to YouTube. The matter at hand: who will open for whom. (Watch the video below.)

Currently on tour with Florida Georgia Line, Rhett has been perfecting his soulful country hybrid with songs like current hit “Crash and Burn,” as well as “Southside” and “T-Shirt” from his upcoming second album. The Bruno Mars-inspired singer recently released a throwback video for “Crash,” which was co-written by Chris Stapleton. Eldredge, meanwhile, is on tour with Darius Rucker and joined the headliner at his annual charity concert this week in Nashville to perform Sinatra favorites. Eldredge’s new album, titled Illinois, will be released September 11th.

The duo are both set to appear on tonight’s CMT Music Awards and will each perform during this week’s CMA Music Festival in Nashville.

The T-Shirt and Tank-Top Workouts

The T-Shirt and Tank-Top Workout

This is the time of the year that all the physique athletes and people who just want to look good wait for. You have spent all fall, winter and even a little bit of spring trying to gain muscle mass with higher calories and compound movements. Now is the time to switch gears in your training a little bit and focus on making those muscles “pop” out a little bit more.

We all know that squats, deadlifts, presses and other heavy compound movements help produce the most amount of mass. We tend to go overboard with this mantra and forget that to have those show-off muscles stand out; you have to work them correctly. Isolation movements with heavy weight and higher reps are also needed to bring out the detail in the muscle. Switching your focus to training the arms, chest, delts, traps, neck and abs should be your primary focus.

If you want to be t-shirt and tank top ready, you have to pay attention to the details. Perform each of these workouts once per week over the next 4-weeks, and watch those “beach muscles” stand out like you are show ready.

Rules To Follow

As you are performing these workouts, keep a few things in mind.

  1. Keep rest periods brief to help increase hypertrophy and fat loss. You will be staying in the 8-15 rep range for most movements, so you should be able to move at a fast pace. You also want to increase your workout density (more work in less time) to help increase total volume in each workout.
  2. Utilize the mind-muscle connection. Make sure to squeeze each rep to activate as much muscle tissue as possible. Posing and contracting your muscles in between each set will also help bring out the detail in each muscle. Physique athletes not only practice posing, they also do it to bring out the hardness and detail in the muscle. Act like you are getting ready for a show.
  3. Go for the pump – this goes along with rule #2. Your goal is to fill the muscle with as much nutrient-rich blood on every rep. Keep continuous tension on the muscle as well as squeezing the muscle on each rep.
  4. Keep it basic – you don’t need any fancy exercises, just the one’s that work. Focus on the movement and work hard.

Perform each workout once to twice per week on non-consecutive days, making sure you take a day off after you perform each workout. Your goal is to get in 3 upper body workouts each week, so rotate the workouts evenly. Be sure to include one lower-body workout each week.

*For Workout 1: Perform exercises A and B as a superset.

**For Workout 2: Perform in a circuit fashion moving from one exercise to the next as fast as possible. After you complete one round (one set of each exercise), rest 2-3 minutes and then repeat the circuit 2 more times for a total of 3.

Bug-Proof Your Home Like A Pro

Imagine a future without bugs! Sure, some learned ecologist will probably claim that these eerie tentacled creatures potter around at the bottom of the ecosystem doing important work in the grand scheme of things, but a wholesale elimination of the cockroaches and the mosquitos and the bed bugs of the world is clearly a grand and worthy goal. Unfortunately, stubborn old mother nature refuses to let it happen and I suspect it’s not going to be any sort of a topic at the next election. So with the cold, crystalline days of bug-free winter giving way to the insect-friendly sweatbox that is summer, here’s how to do the next best thing beyond making an entire species extinct—banish them from your apartment.
