Adam Jones Injury: Updates on Orioles Star’s Ankle and Return

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones is off to a blazing start in 2015, but an ankle injury suffered Thursday may be the thing that will slow him down.

Continue for updates.

Showalter Unsure of Jones’ Timetable

Saturday, May 30

According to Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun, Orioles manager Buck Showalter is unsure how long Jones’ ankle injury could keep him out of the lineup:

Jones rolled his ankle in the back half of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox but remained in the game until the end and played in Friday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The four-time All-Star went 0-for-4 against the Rays.

The 29-year-old Jones has been a horse in center field for the Orioles. He’s appeared in at least 151 games in each of the last four seasons, including at least 159 in the last three years. His ability to hit for average and power, combined with solid defense in center field, makes him one of the most valuable players on Baltimore’s roster.

Brandon Marshall, Jets Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall has a new team this season, as he will play for the New York Jets, and he now has a new contract to go along with it.

According to’s Field Yates and Rich Cimini, the 31-year-old wideout restructured his deal; it is now worth $26 million over the next three years rather than the previous $24.3 million.

The Jets acquired Marshall in an offseason trade with the Chicago Bears, and in order to ensure that they would land the five-time Pro Bowler, they promised to revise his contract, per Cimini:

While Marshall has been one of the best pass-catchers in the league since entering the NFL in 2006, he is coming off a tough season that saw him catch just 61 passes for 721 yards and eight touchdowns, as he missed three games and was hampered in others due to injury.

With his stock seemingly lower than it has been in quite some time, Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk is surprised that Marshall was able to secure a better contract:

It is possible that the former University of Central Florida standout is on the decline, but he believes he is in fine form, per Kieran Darcy of

I really feel like I’m better now than I’ve ever been. There’s the physical part, feeling healthy, and our medical staff here is probably the best in the league. I feel great, and now I’m starting to see the game differently, being older and having a lot of experience. So having all of that working for me, and going against those guys every single day, I’m excited about doing my job this year.

If the Jets are going to compete in the AFC East with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and rapidly improving Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins this season, then they need Marshall to play like the All-Pro-caliber guy he has been in the past.

He will also be a key figure in the development of young quarterback Geno Smith. New York restructuring Marshall’s contract is a vote of confidence that he will be able to take Smith to the next level.
