Melanie Brown and Stephen Belafonte were still spicing up their lifestyle long after they could actually afford it!
The former couple were blasted by the Superior Court judge overseeing their spousal support hearing over maintaining a lifestyle more expensive than their finances allowed.
While Belafonte was granted temporary spousal support — in which Mel B was ordered to pay her ex $40,000 a MONTH until they reach an agreement on their divorce — the judge noted the pair had been “living beyond their means.”
To put in in perspective, the judge noted that the couple had lived a “high upper class life” in the top “1%,” which was “far more” than they could afford!
While the court found that the Spice Girl singer’s income available for support was no less than $175,000 per month, she had claimed $5,000 for childcare with no explanation, as well as around $9,000 a month for food!
That’s not all — in the court docs, Mel and Stephen accused each other of fleeing with “hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of community (ie joint) property dollars.”
The judge was not entertaining the twosome’s money mishandling, noting he didn’t understand why neither party cut back on expenses by living in their yet-to-be-sold West Hollywood home amid the divorce drama — not to mention why they have yet to pay their 2016 taxes.
The court ordered the couple to keep a budget of $51,000 a month for expenses going forward.
As for the temporary spousal support order, Mel has a 15-day trial to prove her claims of domestic violence against Belafonte are true. If not, he’ll be sitting on a pretty penny for quite some time.
What a mess.
BTW, someone get this judge a daytime show, right?
