NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Tens of thousands of bicyclists were pedaling throughout New York City on Sunday in the 38th annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour.
As WCBS 880’s Monica Miller reported, Lindsey from Manhattan was wearing pink feathers in her bike helmet so her friends didn’t lose her among the 32,000 riders.
“I think one of the best parts is when you’re in Brooklyn, everyone’s sitting outside (on) their stoops cheering you on,” she said. “So you feel like you’re in a marathon.”
She also likes the end of the tour.
“Being on the Staten Island Ferry and having a beer and looking at the Manhattan skyline,” Lindsey said.
Jill was riding in the event for the first time.
“It’s really to prove to myself that I could do this and improve my fitness and just have a great time,” she said.

Added Ken Podziba, president and chief executive officer of Bike New York, the nonprofit group behind the Five Boro Bike Tour: “This is the most culturally diverse, most ethnically diverse city in the world, and it’s the best way of seeing the neighborhoods, the characters of New York City, on a bike with the energy of 32,000 other cyclists, and … New York is cheering them on,” Podziba added.
The event, however, is not popular with drivers who are limited by road closures.

“When they’re stuck in traffic, don’t be too angry at us,” Podziba said. “The money goes to a good cause.”
Money raised by the event goes to Bike New York education programs that help kids and adults.
